Mother & Nurse Self-Publishes First Children's Book to Empower Young Black Girls

QUEENS, N.Y. - EntSun -- New children's author, Shannon Butler, released her first children's book, I Am Smart, I Am Beautiful, and I Am Loved this month which was inspired by her daughter, Makenzie. Within the first 24 hours, the book was ranked #1 Children's self esteem and self respect and #1 Children's African American stories. Inspired by her Mother/Daughter affirmation routine, this picture book leads parents, guardians, and their children in repeating positive phrases that build confidence and self-esteem. This 26-page book is filled with affirmations and illustrations suitable for little girls aged 0 to 5. I Am Smart, I Am Beautiful, and I Am Loved encourages little girls to believe in themselves and have confidence in who they are by using rhymes and illustrations.

Shannon started her positive mantra routine with Makenzie while she was still in the womb and now her daughter recites these same mantras on her own. Shannon believed early on in the importance of establishing an affirmation routine with children as she knew it would aid in their self-discovery and build their self-worth. After Makenzie turned three years old, Shannon decided to release I Am Smart, I Am Beautiful, and I Am Loved to encourage parents to bond with their daughters in the same way. This book addresses how powerful and empowering words are by having young girls repeat positive words and/or phrases about themselves.

"I am very excited to share with other parents and/or guardians what I do to not only bond with my daughter but also to encourage her. I was inspired to write this book after my daughter was born 3 years ago. However, the current climate of what's happening in our country is what made me decide it was time to birth this book.  I want every little girl to love and embrace who they are and to have confidence by repeating positive words and or phrases about themselves.
