EntSun News/11104789
~ Boston Mayor Michelle Wu joined Boston Emergency Medical Services and the Boston Public Health Commission at Faneuil Hall to mark the graduation of 20 new emergency medical technicians and the promotion of 12 department members.

The graduates completed the Boston EMS Recruit Academy, a full-time, paid program combining classroom instruction and field training. During training, they collectively responded to more than 2,800 911 calls, according to the department, treating patients with conditions including cardiac arrests, behavioral health crises, overdoses and serious injuries.

The new class is expected to strengthen the department's capacity to provide ambulance and dispatch services, the city said.

"Every day, the skill, professionalism, and compassion of Boston EMS make a difference in every neighborhood across our city," Wu said.

The department also recognized four EMTs promoted to paramedic after completing a training program, promotional exams and a three-month field internship: Meghan Keough, Baird Lashley, David Rossi and Andrew Shea.

Rachel McPherson and Michael Regan were promoted to captain. Jessica Finn, Kevin Franck, Greg LaPlant, Ryan McLoughlin, Michael Walker and Rachel Williams were promoted to lieutenant.

Boston EMS Chief James Hooley said the promoted members had demonstrated experience, judgment and commitment to the people they serve. The department said the 12 promoted members bring more than 160 years of combined service and leadership experience to supervisory roles.

Boston EMS responds to more than 141,000 emergency medical incidents annually, according to the department.
