Kenneth Watterworth Westport Business Owner, An Interview With Company InFocus

During the first part of the interview, Kenneth Watterworth describes his passion for project management and how he got started in the fireproofing industry. He dates his passion for project management back to his days at Boston College. He graduated with a degree in Business Administration and Finance and started his first business, Ken Watterworth Inc. in 1977.

In his first business, Kenneth Watterworth started a commercial painting company that quickly picked up steam. When asked what is the most important thing a young entrepreneur should be focusing on, Kenneth stated "professional networking." Today, some estimates suggest that up to 70% of all jobs are not published on publicly available job search sites, and research has long shown that anywhere from half to upwards of 80% of jobs are filled through networking.

When asked what he attributes to being productive, Kenneth stated that getting out of the office and interacting with every employee. "Personally, I find that I'm at my most productive when I leave my office and explore the project." Though the average employee is productive for 60% of their workday, office employees are only productive for 31% of their workday.

In 1991, Kenneth started Pro-Tect, Inc. a fireproofing company. Pro-Tect, Inc. of Connecticut has grown into the largest fireproofing company in the state of Connecticut. When asked how he measures success, Kenneth stated being able to balance work/life balance.
