EntSun News/10892235
NEW YORK - EntSun -- The Find Your ID NYC (https://fyidnyc.com/) Identity Podcast has your Wednesday evening covered! This soul-searching and conscious-thinking podcast focuses on the concept of discovering one's identity.
The Identity Podcast continues July with its 50th episode of this almost one-year-long podcast! Hosts Tarik and Caleb welcome art historian, visual artist, and art dealer, Mark West Jr. to the show. The trio plan on ringing the celebratory 50th episode with topics such as: how he got into art as he started selling in the open air markets, what leaving his corporate job to open the gallery felt like, why he paints in black face, and the challenges he faces running an arts organization.
Mark West is a visual artist, art historian, and art dealer. Mark West paints exclusively with Blackface as Blackface was directly inspired by African art that predates Christianity. In fact, Blackface has existed since 3000 BC. The original form of Blackface was used to depict people from Africa and was and is commonly used to depict famous ancestors such as Oshun and Shango. West typically paints images of Black Gods and Deities and important scenes throughout global Black history. West's love of art and culture led him to open the Mark West Center for the Arts, also known as House of Mark West in NYC in 2018. The House of Mark West is a Black-owned gallery and cultural center serving POC, LGBTQ, and Differently-Abled artists and creatives. Currently West is in the process of opening a new public museum in NYC called the Mark West Museum anticipated in 2023.
