Idaho: Gov. Little announces new appointments

Boise, Idaho ~ Boise, Idaho - Governor Brad Little has announced new appointments in his administration today, bringing in experienced leaders to continue the success of the state government. Alberto Gonzalez will be taking over as the Director of the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) in July, following the retirement of current Director Scott Stokes.

Governor Little expressed his confidence in Gonzalez's abilities, stating that he has been an exceptional public servant who has modernized state government and improved services for Idahoans. He believes that Gonzalez will continue this success as he leads ITD. The Governor also took the opportunity to thank Scott Stokes for his outstanding leadership and years of dedicated service, which have strengthened Idaho's transportation system and will benefit the growing state for generations to come.

With 30 years of public and private sector leadership experience, including more than two decades serving the State of Idaho, Gonzalez brings a wealth of knowledge to his new role. He previously served as Chief Information Officer and Administrator of the Idaho Office of Information Technology Services (ITS), where he led the consolidation of IT services across state government. He also held key technology leadership roles with Your Health Idaho and the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare (DHW). Additionally, he studied Organizational Behavior at the University of San Francisco and is a graduate of the National Transportation Leadership Institute at Indiana University.

In light of Gonzalez's appointment, Jake Reynolds, Administrator at the Idaho Department of Commerce, will serve as Interim Director at ITS.

Governor Little also announced that John Bernasconi has returned to the Idaho State Tax Commission (ISTC) as Chairman. Bernasconi previously served as Chief Operating Officer at ISTC and most recently led the Division of Welfare and Self-Reliance at DHW. He brings extensive experience serving Idaho taxpayers and improving government operations to his new role.

Bernasconi has a long history with ISTC, having held several positions there between 2003 and 2010 before being recruited by the Alaska Department of Revenue to serve as Chief of Operations. He then went on to lead revenue modernization efforts in multiple states before returning to Idaho in 2016 as Division Administrator of Revenue Operations. He is a graduate of Boise State University.

Governor Little expressed his pleasure in welcoming Bernasconi back to ISTC, stating that he is a proven leader with a strong track record of serving Idahoans with integrity and excellence.

In addition to these appointments, Governor Little also announced updates on board and commission appointments. Skip Oppenheimer has been appointed to the Idaho Board of Correction in May. Oppenheimer is Chairman and CEO of Oppenheimer Companies, Inc. and President of Oppenheimer Development Corporation. He has a long history as a business and civic leader in Idaho, serving in leadership roles with organizations focused on education, healthcare, economic development, and community service.

The Governor also reappointed Tim Murphy and Jordan Cheirrett to the Idaho Fish and Game Commission. Murphy, who represents the Southwest Region, has previously served as the Idaho Director for the Bureau of Land Management and Director of Fire and Aviation at the National Interagency Fire Center in Boise. Cheirrett, who represents the Southeast Region, is a fourth-generation Idahoan and small business owner/broker from Soda Springs.

Governor Little expressed his gratitude towards these individuals for their willingness to serve their state through public service. He believes that their time, expertise, and leadership will help shape Idaho's future for the better.
