Idaho Falls: City Getting Ready to Celebrate 4th of July with Reminders about Road Closures and Event Information
EntSun News/11096418
~ Idaho Falls is gearing up for its biggest and best 4th of July celebration yet, with an estimated 200,000 people expected to join in on the festivities. As the city prepares for this exciting event, residents and visitors are being reminded to plan ahead for road closures, traffic delays, and community events. Additionally, the city is encouraging everyone to support local families by participating in the "$25,000 in 25 Hours" online giving campaign for the Community Food Basket.
With such a large number of people expected to attend, significant traffic delays are anticipated throughout the day, particularly near downtown and Snake River Landing. To help residents and visitors navigate these potential delays, a complete list of road closures and traffic information can be found on the City's Independence Day webpage. Those planning to attend the Liberty on Parade or Melaleuca Freedom Celebration can also visit Melaleuca's website for a parking map.
It's important to note that temporary road closures will be in effect for both events and that South Tourist Park and Ryder Park will be closed to public vehicles, boats, and campers/RVs from July 3 at 11 a.m. until noon on July 5. Parking will not be allowed on Snake River Parkway, Pioneer Road, Event Center Drive, Sunnyside (between I-15 and Yellowstone Highway), or Yellowstone Highway (between Sunnyside and Pancheri). Vehicles parked in these areas may be ticketed or towed. After the fireworks display, exiting parking areas may take up to two hours so it's advised to plan ahead and be patient.

In addition to traffic reminders, safety precautions are also being emphasized. Residents are reminded to only call 911 in case of emergencies and to call (208) 529-1200 for non-emergency assistance. Due to large crowds at Snake River Landing, cell phone service may be limited so it's recommended to make a plan with family and designate a meeting place. Personal fireworks, including sparklers, are not permitted along parade routes or at Snake River Landing during community events. Drones, alcohol, and ATVs are also prohibited at the Melaleuca Freedom Celebration. It's important to stay out of the Snake River, canals, and water features for safety reasons. For those using legal "safe and sane" fireworks at home, it's advised to keep water nearby, supervise children closely, and never use fireworks near dry vegetation.
As part of America's 250th anniversary celebration, the City of Idaho Falls is partnering with the Community Food Basket – Idaho Falls for the "$25,000 in 25 Hours" online giving challenge. This fundraiser will begin at noon on July 3 and continue through 1 p.m. on July 4, with all donations supporting local families facing food insecurity. Every contribution helps the Community Food Basket continue providing meals and resources to those in need. Residents are encouraged to donate through the Community Food Basket's Venmo account or website during the 25-hour campaign.
