Hundreds of New Jersey Students Rally to Fill an Entire Football Field with Food Donations

Dermer Dreams' 100 Yard Food Drive Challenge II mobilizes families and communities to fight hunger through a student-led food collection on October 25.
HOWELL, N.J. - EntSun -- Hundreds of students across Monmouth County are mobilizing to fill an entire football field with thousands of yellow food donation bags as Dermer Dreams brings its 100 Yard Food Drive Challenge II to Howell High School on Sunday, October 25.
Momentum grew on September 17, when Dermer Dreams hosted a student rally at Howell High School. Students signed up and chanted, "Fill the Field!" They are now collecting food through neighborhoods, schools, teams and communities across the county.
Last year, more than 1,000 participants joined the inaugural Challenge at Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School, generating thousands of food donations and attracting national coverage from CNN.
The effort comes as food insecurity continues across New Jersey. Approximately one in 10 New Jersey households experiences food insecurity, while more than 800,000 residents rely on SNAP for food assistance.

"This is about giving young people a way to see the difference they can make right now," said Daniel Dermer, Co-Founder and CEO of Dermer Dreams. "When hundreds of students are chanting 'Fill the Field,' you realize this has become much more than a food drive. They are taking ownership of the mission and bringing their communities along."
Through the Dermer Dreams Neighborhood Captain Program, students organize food drives while earning volunteer service hours and developing leadership skills.
"The field covered in thousands of yellow bags will be a powerful sight, but the real story is the people behind every bag," said Alyse Dermer, Co-Founder of Dermer Dreams.
Dermer Dreams' 2026 community partners include Bayshore Family of Companies, New Jersey Natural Gas, New York Giants Football, Sparrow Executive Jets and Wegmans Food Markets, Inc. Businesses and organizations can still participate through sponsorship, food collection and employee engagement. Visit www.dermerdreams.org or follow @DermerDreams.
