TALLAHASSEE, Fla. ~ Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and the state Cabinet approved conservation projects covering more than 10,770 acres, including more than 2,700 acres in the Ocala-to-Osceola Wildlife Corridor, according to a state announcement. The projects represent an investment of more than $72.6 million.
The approvals include more than 4,500 acres of working agricultural land to be protected through the Rural and Family Lands Protection Program, Agriculture Commissioner Wilton Simpson said. He described the program as a way to keep productive farmland in private hands while protecting it from development.

DeSantis said the acquisitions would strengthen the Florida Wildlife Corridor and preserve working lands. Florida Department of Environmental Protection Secretary Alexis A. Lambert said the projects would connect conservation areas and protect water resources and wildlife habitat.
The state said it has invested more than $1.5 billion in land conservation through the Florida Forever Program since 2019. That funding has enabled DEP to acquire more than 500,000 acres, 92% of which are within the Florida Wildlife Corridor, according to the announcement.
