Governor Polis Lays Out His Vision for the Future of Higher Education and Training in Colorado
EntSun News/11097039
DENVER ~ Governor Polis, along with the Colorado Commission for Higher Education (CCHE), gathered today to discuss the future of higher education in Colorado and how the state can better prepare its citizens for well-paying jobs. The CCHE, which was established by the Colorado Legislature in 1965, plays a crucial role in shaping the state's higher education ecosystem.
During the meeting, Governor Polis emphasized the need for collaboration between colleges, universities, schools, and workforce training programs to create clear and affordable pathways to success. He also stressed the importance of making higher education more flexible and innovative to help more people succeed and strengthen Colorado's workforce.

This vision for higher education and workforce development was further solidified in December 2025 when Governor Polis, along with legislative, education, and workforce leaders from across the state, released a new report outlining their plans. This led to the introduction of HB26-1317 - Unified Postsecondary Talent Development System - sponsored by Speaker Julie McCluskie, Representative Rick Taggart, and Senators Jeff Bridges and Lisa Frizell.
The bill aims to create a one-stop-shop for Coloradans to access job training, higher education opportunities, and find work opportunities. This will break down barriers that prevent individuals from acquiring the necessary skills for in-demand jobs that offer good pay.
Governor Polis believes that by working together and implementing these changes, Colorado can become an even more amazing place with a strong workforce ready to take on any challenges that come their way.
