Governor Abbott Announces SBA Assistance For South-Central Texas Communities Following Bexar County Severe Storms
EntSun News/11102399
~ In a recent announcement, Governor Greg Abbott revealed that the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has approved his request to include South-Central Texas communities in the federal disaster declaration for severe weather. This declaration comes after storms hit the region in August, causing significant damage.
The counties included in the federal declaration are Atascosa, Bandera, Bexar, Comal, Guadalupe, Kendall, Medina, and Wilson. With this approval from the SBA, Texans in these areas who were impacted by the severe storms will now have access to additional resources to aid in their recovery and rebuilding efforts.
Governor Abbott expressed his gratitude for this assistance, stating that it will provide critical support to homeowners, renters, and businesses as they work to recover from the damage caused by the storms. He also thanked both the SBA and the Texas Division of Emergency Management for their partnership and continued efforts to support affected communities.
The SBA has granted access to its Home Disaster Loans, Business Physical Disaster Loans, and Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) program. These low-interest loans will be available to qualifying homeowners, renters, and businesses in the affected South-Central Texas communities.

Applicants can apply online at sba.gov/disaster or call SBA's Customer Service Center at (800) 659-2955 for more information on disaster assistance. Those who are deaf or hard of hearing can dial 7-1-1 to access telecommunications relay services. Completed applications should be mailed to the U.S. Small Business Administration's Processing and Disbursement Center.
To further assist with the application process and address any questions about the disaster loan programs, SBA representatives will open a Disaster Loan Outreach Center at Las Palmas Library starting tomorrow. The center will be open Mondays through Fridays from 10 AM - 6 PM and Tuesdays from 12 PM - 8 PM.
Governor Abbott has been taking action to provide all available resources to support communities affected by severe weather. This includes requesting SBA disaster assistance for Bexar County and contiguous counties impacted by the August storms, announcing an extension for Bexar County SNAP recipients to request replacement benefits for food lost or destroyed by the storms, and directing TDEM to request joint preliminary damage assessments with SBA, state, and local partners in Bexar County communities.
The Governor's efforts demonstrate his commitment to helping those affected by the severe weather in South-Central Texas. With the SBA's approval of disaster assistance, affected individuals and businesses can now begin the process of rebuilding and recovering from the damage caused by these storms.
