Governor Abbott Announces $148.8 Billion Economic Impact of Military Installations in Texas

~ In a recent announcement, Governor Greg Abbott revealed the findings of a study that examined the economic impact of United States military installations in Texas. According to the study, these installations contribute an estimated $148.8 billion to the state's economy and support 628,884 direct and indirect jobs.
During his statement, Governor Abbott expressed pride in Texas' long tradition of military service and highlighted the state's 15 major U.S. military installations and the Army Transformation and Training Command headquarters. He emphasized that these installations not only play a crucial role in defending the nation but also serve as major employers and bring significant value to communities across Texas.
The study focused on analyzing the economic impact of individuals directly affiliated with military installations in Texas, including active-duty military personnel, civilian employees, contractors, dependents, and other personnel. It projected that by 2025-2026, these installations will provide a total of 212,524 direct jobs and support a total employment of 628,884.

The Office of the Governor's Texas Military Preparedness Commission played a key role in conducting this study. The commission advises Governor Abbott and the Texas Legislature on defense and military matters while also working towards strengthening the position of Texas' military installations in preparation for any future Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC). Additionally, it collaborates with military communities across the state to support infrastructure development, enhance resiliency, and ensure mission readiness while maintaining Texas' status as the top destination for military missions, service members, and their families.
