Gov. Kemp: Pirelli to Invest $1.2 Billion in Georgia Expansion

~ Governor Brian P. Kemp expressed his gratitude for the partnership between the state of Georgia and Pirelli, a leading tire manufacturer, as they announced a historic investment that will bring more jobs to the region. The governor stated that Pirelli has been a valued presence in Georgia for over two decades and he is pleased to see their efforts to grow this partnership paying off.

Pirelli, headquartered in Italy, established its U.S. headquarters and manufacturing facility in Rome, Georgia in 2002. Currently, the company employs 234 Georgians through its manufacturing, innovation, and headquarters operations in the state. Claudio Zanardo, CEO of Pirelli North America, emphasized the importance of the U.S. market for their business and expressed excitement about the expansion of their Rome facility.

The expansion project will be carried out in two phases at Pirelli's Georgia facility located at 100 Pirelli Drive in Rome. The first phase will involve adding latest-generation robotics equipment while the second phase will require hiring for traditional manufacturing processes. The company expects to begin hiring in 2029 and aims to have the facility fully operational by 2033.

Chairwoman Rhonda Wallace of Floyd County Commission also shared her enthusiasm for this expansion as it not only brings new job opportunities but also strengthens Pirelli's commitment to the community. She praised Pirelli for being a great community partner for over two decades.

Lori Dowdy, Senior Regional Project Manager from Georgia Department of Economic Development (GDEcD), played a crucial role in securing this project along with other partners such as Rome-Floyd Development Authority, Georgia Quick Start, and Georgia Power. GDEcD Commissioner Pat Wilson commended Pirelli's long-term relationship with Georgia and their contribution to building the state's automotive supply chain.

Wilson further added that he had personally visited both Pirelli's operations in Floyd County and Italy and witnessed their innovative and advanced technology. He believes that this investment will bring the future of mobility to Georgia with the introduction of advanced robotics, next-generation manufacturing, and technologies that will make automobiles more connected and intelligent.

Pirelli's expansion in Rome is not only a significant investment in northwest Georgia but also a testament to the strong partnership between the company and the state. As one of the early companies to contribute to Georgia's automotive industry, Pirelli continues to believe in the state's potential and is committed to writing the next chapter of its success story.
