Dr. Anthony Fletcher Installed as President of the Association of Black Cardiologists

WASHINGTON, April 23, 2024 ~ The Association of Black Cardiologists (ABC) has recently announced the installation of its 20th President, Dr. Anthony Fletcher. The ceremony took place during the ABC's spring 2024 Membership Meeting in Atlanta earlier this month. Dr. Fletcher, an interventional cardiologist at CHI St. Vincent Cardiology and Medicine Clinic in Little Rock, Arkansas, is a highly accomplished individual with an impressive educational background.

A graduate of Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio and the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, Dr. Fletcher also completed his Internal Medicine Internship and Residency at George Washington University Hospital in Washington, D.C., where he also finished his Cardiovascular Fellowship.

As the newly appointed President of ABC, Dr. Fletcher is dedicated to upholding the organization's mission and vision by promoting inclusivity and diversity for all individuals. In his own words, "Every person deserves equal benefits afforded by the reduction in the frequency, duration and impact of diseases of the heart and blood vessels." With this mindset, he aims to lead the organization towards achieving a reduction in cardiovascular disease through awareness and education.

Dr. Fletcher also plans to advocate for a more diverse workforce within the field of cardiology by encouraging more African American cardiologists, researchers, and providers to join the profession. Additionally, he aims to establish an endowment that will support ABC's agenda and programs.

Along with Dr. Fletcher's presidency, ABC has also welcomed its new Board Chair, Paul Underwood MD, as well as Board members Melissa Burroughs MD MS FACC; Garth Graham MD; Lee Kirksey MD MBA; and Kevin Kwaku MD PhD FACC. The Board comprises individuals with diverse backgrounds in healthcare, organizational management, and capacity building.
