Colorado Springs children remind drivers to "Remember What You Learned" in new traffic safety campaign
EntSun News/11105441
~ The City of Colorado Springs, the Colorado Springs Police Department and Drive Smart Colorado have launched a public education campaign urging drivers to apply basic lessons such as patience, kindness, attention and caution on the road.
The "Remember What You Learned" campaign was highlighted Wednesday at John Venezia Community Park. It features local schoolchildren in television and radio public service announcements, with messages also appearing on billboards, digital advertising and social media.
The campaign encourages drivers to wait their turn at intersections and when merging, share the road courteously, put away distractions and follow speed limits while adjusting for traffic and conditions.
"Some of the most important lessons we teach our children are also some of the most important things we can remember when we're driving," said Todd Frisbie, the city's traffic engineer. He said the campaign aims to turn those lessons into everyday habits.

The Police Department is supporting the effort through education and enforcement focused on dangerous driving behaviors. Lt. Pam Farmer said speeding, distraction and aggressive driving can put lives at risk, and urged drivers to stay alert and make safe choices.
Drive Smart Colorado is partnering with the city to promote responsible driving. Trish Trent-Iaquinta of the organization said the children's messages are a reminder that patience, kindness and attention matter whenever people drive.
The campaign is part of Safe Streets COS, the city's broader effort to reduce crashes and improve safety for drivers, pedestrians and bicyclists. The initiative combines public education with roadway improvements, targeted enforcement and school-zone enhancements.
The city's Transportation Safety Action Plan sets a goal of reducing serious injury and fatal crashes by 35% by 2035. More information about the campaign and Safe Streets COS is available at ColoradoSprings.gov/SafeStreetsCOS.
