Colorado: Innovative Fire Mitigation and Erosion Control Company Joins Rural Jump-Start Program, Establishing Headquarters in Durango
EntSun News/11097650
DURANGO ~ In a move to support economic development and job creation in rural areas, Governor Polis and the Business Funding and Incentives (BF&I) division of the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade (OEDIT) have announced that Fungal Solutions - Wildfire Ltd will be joining the Rural Jump-Start program. The company, which specializes in designing and manufacturing innovative landscaping solutions for fire mitigation and erosion reduction, plans to open its headquarters and facility in Durango.
Governor Polis expressed his excitement about welcoming Fungal Solutions - Wildfire Ltd to Durango, stating that their innovative approach to fire prevention through landscape design will not only protect local communities but also contribute to the growth of the local economy, job creation, and overall quality of life.
Fungal Solutions - Wildfire Ltd offers three trademarked products that utilize local fungal cultures for fire barriers, wood sponge systems, and erosion control. Their services include design, manufacturing, and installation of Fungal Fire Barriers™, BioBerm™ Erosion Control Features, and WoodSponge™ Water-Retention Features.
Dr. Lauren Czaplicki, owner of Fungal Solutions - Wildfire Ltd., expressed her gratitude for the grant support from the Rural Jump-Start program. She believes that this support not only benefits her business but also has a positive impact on Southwest Colorado and the Mountain West region as a whole. She also highlighted how their collaboration with traditional fire mitigation companies, landowners, and landscapers will not only improve wildfire preparedness but also bring broader community benefits such as water-rich soils, reduced erosion, lower water usage, and landscapes better equipped to withstand dry conditions.

The Rural Jump-Start program aims to encourage economic development in economically distressed rural counties in Colorado by supporting new businesses that create good-paying jobs and export goods or services outside of the designated zone. As part of this incentive program, Fungal Solutions - Wildfire Ltd will receive $15,000 in grant funding to support the launch of their operations and four years of tax benefits. Eligible employees will also receive a state personal income tax credit while the company is in the program.
Eve Lieberman, Executive Director of OEDIT, expressed her enthusiasm for Fungal Solutions - Wildfire Ltd's decision to choose Durango as their new headquarters and manufacturing facility. She believes that this move not only showcases the value of the Rural Jump-Start program in fostering economic growth but also highlights Colorado's commitment to supporting climate adaptation solutions that enhance resilience.
The Region 9 Economic Development District of Southwest Colorado (Region 9 EDD) played a crucial role in identifying Fungal Solutions - Wildfire Ltd as a potential candidate for the Rural Jump-Start program. Laura Lewis Marchino, Executive Director of Region 9 EDD, stated that they were delighted to sponsor the company and highlighted how this program provides rural businesses with support from the statewide ecosystem. She also emphasized their commitment to finding and supporting businesses that offer unique products or services in their region.
