CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - EntSun -- Cobalt Digital Expands openGear Portfolio to Include Ward-Beck Analog DA's and Converters
Manufacturer acquires IP and manufacturing rights to openGear® cards to offer enhanced and diversified product line
Champaign, IL – February 9, 2021 -- Cobalt Digital, an industry-leading designer and manufacturer of award-winning edge devices for live video production and master control, and a founding partner in the openGear® initiative, has announced that it has acquired the IP and manufacturing rights to multiple Ward-Beck openGear cards, effective immediately. The result is a significantly expanded product portfolio at price points that appeal to a variety of applications and budgets.
The products being integrated into the Cobalt family include several analog audio and video distribution amplifiers, audio analog-to-digital /digital-to-analog converters, and single card rear modules in numerous 3-pin terminal block configurations.

"We've always held Ward-Beck in the highest esteem and have respected the integrity of the company and quality of its equipment," said Chris Shaw, Cobalt EVP of Sales and Marketing. "We are honored that Kevin Lyver and his team have passed the mantle to Cobalt to keep these modules viable and available in the marketplace. We are delighted to add them to the Cobalt family of products and be able to serve an extended marketplace."
Ward-Beck Systems had manufactured and supplied professional audio broadcast equipment for more than half a century from headquarters in Toronto, Canada. The company ceased operations on January 31, 2021 but has pledged continued support and assistance during the transition period to ensure minimal disruption to customers.
