City of Idaho Falls Begins Work on Roundabout at Birch St
EntSun News/11096940
~ Construction has officially begun on a new roundabout at the intersection of Birch Street and South Boulevard in Idaho Falls. The City of Idaho Falls announced the start of this project on Sunday, July 12, as part of their ongoing efforts to improve transportation infrastructure and enhance safety for all road users.
The construction has been contracted to DL Beck Inc. and is expected to last approximately 120 days, with an estimated completion date in late fall. The project aims to reduce conflict points, improve visibility, and create more efficient traffic flow through the intersection and surrounding roadways.
To facilitate the construction process, the Birch Street and South Boulevard intersection will be fully closed to all traffic starting on Sunday, July 12. Motorists are advised to follow clearly marked detour routes for their safety and convenience.
The closure is expected to last for about 30 days, but this timeline may be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. The City of Idaho Falls urges drivers to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and follow all posted detour signs during this period.

This new roundabout is a welcome addition to the area as it complements the success of the Elm Street roundabout located just south of the intersection. The previous roundabout has already proven effective in improving traffic movement and safety in the vicinity.
Key improvements for this project include constructing a roundabout that will reduce conflict points and keep traffic moving efficiently while also lowering the likelihood of serious crashes. Additionally, the intersection will be realigned so that Birch Street meets South Boulevard at a right angle instead of a skew, improving visibility for drivers.
In order to further enhance safety for all road users, some on-street parking near the intersection will be removed to improve sight lines. Pedestrian and bicycle crossings will also be upgraded with increased visibility and shorter crossing distances, making it safer and easier for non-motorists to navigate through the intersection.
The City of Idaho Falls acknowledges the inconvenience that this construction may cause and appreciates the public's patience and cooperation during this time. They are committed to completing these important transportation improvements for the benefit of the community.
