Celebrate Independence Day in Colorado Springs with new Pikes Peak experiences and family traditions

~ Colorado Springs is gearing up for a memorable Independence Day celebration, inviting both residents and visitors to join in on the festivities. From a special sunrise event to the first-ever sunset opening at Pikes Peak – America's Mountain, there are unique experiences planned across the city. This year's celebration also marks the beginning of a summer of special programming commemorating America's 250th anniversary and leading into Colorado's 150th anniversary.
On July 4th, guests can experience Independence Day like never before with a special sunrise event and the first-ever sunset opening at the summit of Pikes Peak. The Pikes Peak Highway Gateway will open at 4 a.m. for the sunrise event, with timed entry until 6 a.m. It will then reopen at 7 p.m. for the evening celebration, allowing visitors to witness the stunning sunset from 14,115 feet at 8:29 p.m. To ensure safety and manage capacity, timed-entry permits and admission for personal vehicles must be purchased in advance at DrivePikesPeak.com. Shuttle tickets departing from the North Pole parking lot are also available for purchase. It is important to note that tickets will not be sold at the gateway during these special events and all activities are weather permitting.

In addition to these exciting events, visitors can also explore a rare historical exhibition featuring artifacts connected to Lt. Zebulon Montgomery Pike at the Pikes Peak Summit Visitor Center. On display until August 10th, this exhibition includes Pike's original field notebook on loan from the National Archives, his ceremonial sword from History Colorado, and his 1810 military commission signed by President James Madison from the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum collection. This is the first time Pike's original field notebook has reached the summit of the mountain that now bears his name and is part of the City of Colorado Springs' participation in the America 250 Colorado 150 commemoration.
For those looking for a more traditional Independence Day celebration, Rock Ledge Ranch Historic Site is hosting their annual Family Fourth event from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Families can enjoy a variety of activities including a children's patriotic parade, historic home tours, festival games, live music and speeches, food trucks, and shopping in the General Store. Tickets for this event can be purchased at RockLedgeRanch.com.
