Boston: Resolution Condemns Violence and Harassment Toward Public Servants

~ In a unanimous decision, the Council has adopted a resolution condemning acts of violence, assaults, and harassment directed towards Boston Police officers, first responders, and city officials. The resolution was proposed by Council members Flynn, FitzGerald, and Murphy.
This resolution comes in response to an incident that occurred on June 28, 2026. According to reports, a Boston Police officer was surrounded by a crowd while attempting to make an arrest. The officer faced objects being thrown at them before the suspect managed to escape.
The Council's resolution states that such incidents targeting public servants only add to the challenges faced by city personnel. These challenges include concerns related to morale, retention, and recruitment.

The resolution also highlights the crucial responsibilities carried by Boston Police officers, Boston Fire Department personnel, Boston EMS, code enforcement officers, and Boston Transportation Department officials in serving residents and protecting communities. It acknowledges the difficulties faced by these public safety agencies such as staffing concerns and increased demands on resources.
Through this resolution, the Council unequivocally denounces any form of violence, assaults or harassment towards Boston Police officers, first responders and other city officials.
