Boston: Mayor Michelle Wu Appoints Emily Knight as Economic Development Chief

~ Boston Mayor Michelle Wu has announced the appointment of Emily Knight as the city's new Economic Development Chief. Knight, a longtime resident of Boston, will officially begin her role on October 19, 2026.
With a career focused on entrepreneurship, innovation, and economic development, Knight brings a wealth of experience to her new position. Most recently, she served as President and CEO of The Engine, where she played a key role in shaping the organization's strategic direction. During her time at The Engine, Knight also established partnerships with industry leaders, educational institutions, and public sector partners to support the growth of tech companies and bring groundbreaking technologies to market.
Under Knight's leadership, The Engine has solidified its position as a hub for "Tough Tech" - science and engineering aimed at solving some of the world's most pressing challenges. The organization now supports over 150 companies and was recently recognized by TIME as one of the top incubators and accelerators in the country.
In a statement released by Mayor Wu, she expressed gratitude to Interim Chief Donald Wright for his guidance during challenging times and praised his efforts in laying the foundation for future success. Wu also highlighted Knight's impressive track record in bringing people and institutions together to turn ambitious ideas into thriving businesses.

Knight holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Cornell University's School of Hotel Administration and currently resides in Roslindale.
