Bookish Lane Publishing Connects With Children Authors/Illustrators at 2026 LA Kids Book Festival

WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif. - EntSun -- Bookish Lane Publishing brought its publishing lens and love of children's storytelling to the 2026 Los Angeles Kids Book Festival, where authors, illustrators, families, and educators gathered across tents, library spaces, reading rooms, activity areas, and colorful book booths.

Throughout the day, children enjoyed live author readings and interactive illustrator experiences, hearing stories from their creators while exploring drawing, color, characters, and hands-on activities.

Bookish Lane Publishing interviewed authors, illustrators, educators, and independent creators about how their books began and the real-life experiences behind them.

The stories came from everywhere: teachers, nurses, flight attendants, engineers, industry professionals, grandmothers, parents, and family life. Characters included adventurous boys and girls, dogs, cats, whimsical creatures, and imaginative worlds created to help children laugh, learn, build confidence, and see themselves in books.

Illustration styles ranged from pastels and watercolor to digital art, hand-drawn characters, traditional storybook imagery, and heritage-inspired designs. Authors expanded their stories through boxed sets, series, activity materials, character merchandise, themed tubs, star wands, and interactive experiences.

"These authors and illustrators reminded us that there is no single path into children's publishing," said Wilda Kier, Founder and CEO of Bookish Lane Publishing. "A story can begin in a classroom, on an airplane, in a hospital, at a grandmother's kitchen table, or with one funny family dog."

Conversations revealed the stories behind the books: what inspired authors to write, how characters developed, and why certain messages needed to become stories.

For Bookish Lane Publishing, the festival was also an opportunity to view books through a publisher's lens, considering storytelling, illustration, educational value, age appropriateness, creativity, emotional connection, presentation, and series potential.

Books will be considered in four categories:

Story Award — Memorable storytelling, strong characters, emotional connection, and reader engagement.

Creativity Award — Originality in concept, illustration, presentation, world-building, or interactive design.

Series Potential Award — Books and characters with the potential to grow into a continuing series, collection, or children's brand.

Educational Impact Award — Books that combine storytelling with meaningful learning, including literacy, vocabulary, STEM, social-emotional learning, culture, history, life skills, and classroom value.

Awards will be considered for ages 3–5, 6–8, and 9–12, creating up to 12 Bookish Lane distinctions.
