Bloomington: Two New Hopewell South Lanes Receive Community-Selected Names

~ After a community naming process that received an overwhelming response, two new lanes in Hopewell South have been officially named. The City of Bloomington announced that the northern lane will be known as W. Heartwell Lane, while the southern lane will be called W. Possibility Lane.

The naming process began on September 10th and ran until September 15th, during which residents were invited to submit their suggestions for the new lanes. A total of 130 name suggestions were received and reviewed by city staff for eligibility. From these submissions, five finalists were selected for a public vote held from September 16th to 20th.

W. Heartwell Lane was chosen as the name for the northern lane after receiving 30.6% of the vote. The resident who submitted the name described it as a combination of "heart" and "well," paying tribute to the former hospital site and its legacy of care and compassion while also representing the sense of community in Hopewell.

For the southern lane, W. Possibility Lane emerged as the winner with 20.8% of the vote. The resident who suggested this name described it as future-facing and open-ended, perfectly reflecting Hopewell's vision as a new model for neighborhood development.

The City clarified that residents voted separately for each lane, with W. Heartwell Lane receiving its strongest support for the northern location and W. Possibility Lane being selected for the southern location.

Hopewell South is part of a larger redevelopment project led by the City on the former Bloomington Hospital site. It will feature 98 homes, new streets and utilities, and connections to the surrounding neighborhood and B-Line Trail.

To provide updates on Hopewell's progress, a public meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 27th at Bloomington First Church of Nazarene at 5:30 p.m. The meeting will also offer more information on the project, and an agenda will be shared closer to the date.
