As Above, So Below - Fiber Art Installation at Portland Textile Month

PORTLAND, Ore. - EntSun -- The Imperfecta Gallery is proud to present As Above, So Below. On view October 1-31, 2026, this collaborative installation part of Portland Textile Month presents works by Jacqueline Myers-Cho and Patricia Anders.

As Above, So Below explores the parallels between human emotional networks and the fungal communication systems beneath the forest floor. Suspended handmade figures hover above the viewer, connected by red threads that descend into a textile landscape below. Together, these elements show the unseen systems of care, communication, and interdependence that sustain life. The hanging figures embody imagination, memory, and human presence, while the red threads represent communication and the invisible connections between us. Below, mushroom-inspired sculptures, botanical forms, fabric, yarn, and thread create a mycelial terrain, echoing the networks through which fungi connect roots, soil, and ecosystems.

Mycelium teaches us that survival is rarely solitary. Beneath the forest floor, unseen networks exchange resources, warnings, and nourishment, transforming decay into sustenance and endings into beginnings. Mushrooms emerge as visible expressions of a vast, mostly hidden system—a reminder that what we see is only a small part of the work that sustains life.

Like the figures held by threads, we too are carried by forces beneath us, around us, and between us. We may imagine ourselves as independent, but our lives are woven through relationships with ancestors, ecosystems, communities, and one another. Connection is not an addition to life—it is its structure. Beneath it all, mycelium continues its work

About the artists
Fiber artist Jacqueline Myers-Cho blends portraiture, abstraction, and storytelling in a collage style. Recurring themes are self reflection, searching for meaning, transformation, and transitions. She received several awards and her work is in private collections in Australia, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Sweden, Australia, and the USA.

Contemporary artist Patricia Anders moves fluidly between painting, sculpture, and mixed media. Her work has been described as quiet and patient and each piece she creates is the result of an unhurried process of layering, scraping back, and listening to what the material wants to do. She has exhibited her work in several galleries and group shows, and her pieces are held in private collections.
