Aging In Placce Conversations, The Housing Edition, National Aging In Place Council
EntSun News/11105119
Where will you live as you grow older? It sounds like a simple question. But preparing for the future is about far more than choosing a house, condominium, senior community, or place to call home. It's about how you want to live.
ATHENS, Ga. - EntSun -- Beyond the Four Walls: New Book Explores What It Really Means to Plan for the Future
** Aging in Place Conversations: The Housing Edition, the fourth book in the national series, explores the people, places, and choices that shape how we live as we age.**
October 13, 2026 — Aging in Place Conversations: The Housing Edition looks beyond four walls to explore the factors that influence our ability to live safely, independently, and meaningfully. Featuring perspectives from professionals across the aging field, the book examines the places, people, and personal choices that shape our future.
Abbie Vogt, MS, CMC, PAC-CDE/L, CSA, owner and Managing Director of a•bridge: Aging Life Care™ Management in Georgia, is a collaborating author. Her chapter, "Who Depends on You? Planning for the People and Pets Who May Need Care After You," addresses an often-overlooked aspect of future planning: preparing for those who depend on us.

"Planning for the future is about more than determining where we will live. We also need to consider who depends on us, what responsibilities we carry, and what would happen to the people and animals we love if our circumstances changed," Vogt explains.
Her chapter explores planning for pets, adult children with disabilities or special needs, spouses living with chronic illness or dementia, and grandchildren under age 18. Topics include identifying emergency caregivers, documenting care preferences, creating Letters of Intent, developing continuity-of-care plans, and considering guardianship arrangements.
Planning ahead helps families communicate wishes, prepare for unexpected changes, and provide guidance to those who may assume caregiving responsibilities.
The book's broader message is that aging in place is not simply about remaining in the same home. It is about creating a life that reflects personal priorities, meaningful relationships, available resources, and evolving needs. This may mean modifying a home, moving closer to family, exploring supportive services, or building stronger community connections.
