Latinx Filmmaker's Short Film Lands Deal with Powerhouse Network
NEW YORK - EntSun -- Today the short film Abuela's Luck, written and directed by Dominican-American filmmaker Ricky Rosario, will debut on HBO Latino®, and be available on for on demand streaming via HBO NOW®, HBO GO®, and partners' streaming platforms. This is the filmmaker's first major licensing deal.
Abuela's Luck is set in New York City and gives insight into the world of immigrant families/communities and growing up as a bilingual minority in America. With a run time of nine minutes; the film introduces you to Raymond (Manny Ureña) a Dominican-American teen whose relationship with his grandmother is altered forever after a chance to visit his neighborhood Dominican bodega.
"I wanted to authentically highlight the desires of Latino immigrant families—specifically Dominicans," said Ricky Rosario, Filmmaker "Our immigrant parents' initial dream is to get to America for the chance at a better life; then push their children to pursue lives they could only dream of, similarly to Raymond's family and community in the film."

Abuela's Luck made its debut and sold out its block (https://www.instagram.com/p/BnBt4Pth7Du/) at the 2018 New York Latino Film Festival. The film has screened at numerous film festivals and prestigious Universities across the country over the last year, prior to acquiring a deal with HBO.
