Washington Wind Symphony Kicks Off 35th Season Led by New Conductor, Jacob Scherr

REDMOND, Wash. - EntSun -- The Eastside's premier wind ensemble will kick off its 35thseason on Sunday, October 27, at 2:00 p.m. at Redmond Performing Arts Center, led by its new conductor, Jacob Scherr. After a year-long search, the Washington Wind Symphony selected Jacob Scherr as its new Music Director and Conductor. Having interviewed and auditioned some of the most talented band conductors in the Northwest, the band chose Scherr to lead it into the 2019-2020 season and beyond.
The band will present "Horizon", a theme encompassing a broad variety of dynamic music that will take the audience on a glorious journey of harmonious delights. Selections include "Machu Picchu: City in the Sky" by Satoshi Yagisawa; Philip Sparke's electrifying "Music of the Spheres"; "Sun in C," the first movement from byJulie Giroux'sSymphony No. 5,plus many other wind band favorites.
About the Washington Wind Symphony
Founded in 1984, the Washington Wind Symphony is a Redmond-based ensemble comprised of 45 dedicated musicians who gather once a week for the pure enjoyment of playing and preserving classic wind band literature. The group performs a four-concert season at Redmond's intimate Performing Arts Center, and the musicians have gained a following of live-music lovers on the Eastside of Seattle.

About Jacob Scherr
Scherr is recognized as one of most dynamic, young conductors on the podium today. A passionate educator, Scherr has been the director of bands and orchestras at Mt. Vernon High School since 2009. He earned his degree in Music Education from Western Washington University in 2009, and later earned a Master's in Conducting from the American Band College of Sam Houston State University. In 2008, Scherr founded the Whatcom Wind Ensemble, a community-based band located in Bellingham, WA. He lives in Mt. Vernon with his wife and son.
