Warrior Homes of Collier set to receive largest grant in its history

EntSun News/11094943
NAPLES, Fla. - EntSun -- The Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation has made an extraordinary commitment to Warrior Homes of Collier through a $250,000 challenge grant, advancing the organization's mission to end veteran homelessness in Collier County. This generous investment will amplify community support and accelerate efforts to provide stable housing and hope for local veterans in need.

The challenge grant, once fulfilled, will allow $500,000 in funds to be allocated to the funding of the Zulu Project, which will achieve "functional zero" veteran homelessness in Collier County.

The Zulu Project, a renovation of a 10-unit apartment building that will house 20 veterans later this year, is currently underway in Naples and will be the seventh residence operated by Warrior Homes of Collier.

"We're incredibly thankful to the Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation for this and all of the amazing support they have given us over the years," said Dale Mullin, founder and president of Warrior Homes of Collier and a retired Vietnam veteran. "They deeply understand both the mission and the urgent need in our community to stand behind homeless veterans."

Warrior Homes of Collier currently operates six Naples residences for local veterans: Alpha House, a short-term, transitional home for those in recovery from substance-use issues; Delta House, a supportive housing complex with 10 apartments for up to 20 veterans; as well as Bravo, Charlie, Echo and Foxtrot Houses, which provide long-term supportive housing for Veterans.

In addition to temporary housing solutions, Warrior Homes of Collier connects veterans with support services like mental health counseling, peer support and homeless prevention, as well as educational opportunities that offer college scholarships.

Unlike many nonprofits, Warrior Homes of Collier does not receive government funding, instead relying on community patronage and private-sector support. Residents pay rent on a sliding scale, but never more than 30% of their income.

The Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation, founded by Best Buy co-founder Richard M. Schulze, focuses its philanthropy on human and social services, education and health, with a strong presence supporting communities in Florida.
