Understanding the Beauty of Design: DRESSEDUNDRESSED

NEW YORK - EntSun -- Designer Takeshi Kitazawa of DRESSEDUNDRESSED, based in Japan, discussed his journey into becoming a designer in an interview with Find Your ID NYC.

DRESSEDUNDRESSED was created by Kitazawa in 2009. The brand is known for utilizing contradict ideas which incorporate streetwear humor and minimalistic tailoring: classic and modern, subtle and bold, masculine and feminine, the brand produces collections exploring deconstructive and genderless designs.

"When I was 24 years old, I was the director and buyer of a selection of vintage items and collection brands. One day, Martin Margiela came to our store. He purchased a piece that I remade from a vintage item. That's what inspired me to become a designer. I am so grateful to him," said Kitazawa.

In 2009, the brand founded its own label "DRESSEDUNDRESSED" and launched its first Spring-Summer collection. In 2012, the designer presented the first runway show in Autumn-Winter 2012 at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in Tokyo. In 2013, the brand presented its capsule collection as one of six finalists for the International Woolmark Prize.

DRESSEDUNDRESSED was nominated by Franca Sozzani from VOGUE Italy. Yves Saint Laurent and Karl Lagerfeld were picked from this International Woolmark Prize as well for their gateway to success in their careers. Awarded DHL design Award by Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Tokyo from 36 brands during Spring Summer 2014 season.
