The Tulsamerican had a crew of ten men on the fateful day of December 17, 1944. The bomber received significant damage in battle and tried to fly back to the island of Vis, off the coast of Croatia, but hit the water, just short of reaching the runway. TASM Curator, Alex London encourages visitors to experience this uniquely Tulsa exhibit, "The Tulsamerican display at TASM gives visitors a detailed chronology of the last B-24 bomber ever built. Visitors can experience her intricate history through objects belonging to the original crewman or even preserved pieces from the aircraft that still rests on the bottom of the Adriatic Sea."
The Tulsa Air and Space Museum dedicated the Tulsamerican Exhibit on the 75th anniversary of its final flight and crash into the Adriatic Sea on December 17, 2019. Family members of the crew shared stories of their fathers that had served as crew members on the Tulsamerican.
