Tax accountant turned toy creator thinks toys can do more

EntSun News/10884623
MARKHAM, Ontario - EntSun -- Barumba Play Inc. is a female-owned toy company that recently launched out of Toronto, Canada. It is led by Sara Feldstein, a former tax accountant. She faced burnout and depression during the Covid-19 pandemic quarantine which led her to trade in her calculator for a sewing machine.

Feldstein noticed a lot of toys in her home that easily broke, did not keep her young children entertained or could not be stored or cleaned. She felt that parents were often not considered in the design of toys. "I wanted to design something that could be used for all ages and was a different experience every time it was placed with," Feldstein said. She looked at common movements kids do like crawling, sliding and climbing and incorporated them into a toy that can serve the children and the parents.

Their first product is an eleven-piece play couch. A play couch is a children's couch that is frameless and composed of foam cushions. Their design features triangles, semi-circles, rectangles and arches that when put together cleverly create a comfortable couch. The pieces come apart with ease to create forts, tunnels, slides and more.

To consider the parents in the design, the Barumba Play™ couch has removable washable cushions covers and even has waterproof liners to protect the interior foam from spills. They added zipper pockets as well to avoid the temptation for kids to unzip the cushion covers.

It can be purchased for pre-order in grey or navy for $649 shipping included across Canada at their website barumba.ca.

Feldstein hopes to re-invent the playroom over time by re-imagining classic toys that will serve her mission of "toys that do more."
