Tacoma: Applicants Sought for the Board of Ethics

~ The Tacoma City Council is currently seeking applicants to fill a vacant position on the Board of Ethics. This opportunity presents a chance for individuals to play a crucial role in upholding ethical standards within the city.
The Board of Ethics is composed of five regular members, who are recommended by the Government Performance and Finance Committee and appointed by the City Council. The term for this position is three years and applicants must be residents of Tacoma.
As stated in the press release, the main responsibility of the Board is to receive and investigate complaints regarding violations of the Code of Ethics by various city officials, including the City Manager, Director of Public Utilities, and elected officials. They also have the authority to provide advisory opinions upon request and publish formal opinions on relevant matters.

In line with their commitment to promoting equity and anti-racism within the organization, the City encourages individuals from diverse backgrounds to apply for this position. This includes BIPOC individuals, LGBTQ+ individuals, people with disabilities, seniors, youth, immigrants, and refugees.
Applicants who are appointed to this position will be required to complete trainings on Open Public Meetings Act and Public Records Act provided by the Washington State Office of the Attorney General within 90 days.
