Sullivan State Farm Agencies support student drivers in Lee County
EntSun News/10850550
CAPE CORAL, Fla. - EntSun -- The Sullivan State Farm Agencies recognize the importance of teaching teens to be safe drivers. Cape Coral agents Dawn and Mike Sullivan are proud to announce their support of the Rock the Road Challenge, a first-time driver competition presented by the Lee County Tax Collector's Office. The Sullivan State Farm Agencies are contributing $2,000 in scholarships to the competition, with two winners each receiving a $1,000 scholarship.
As part of the Rock the Road Challenge, a select number of high school-age students throughout Lee County will participate in a driving skills challenge on a closed course. Entrants must be Lee County residents who will be at least 15 years old by December 31, 2020 and must have their Florida learner's license by that date.
"Learning to drive is an exciting process, and it's also vitally important. We want young drivers to develop safe driving skills for life," said State Farm Agent Mike Sullivan. "Dawn and I are proud to play a role in the Rock the Road Challenge and provide these scholarships as a reward for demonstrating safe and competent driving skills."

The COVID-19 pandemic has made the driver education process even more challenging for teens, thanks to remote learning, closed driving schools and limited availability to services. However, the importance of educating young drivers is more relevant than ever. In July 2020, State Farm surveyed teens to examine their driving behaviors. The survey revealed nearly nine out of 10 teens said they engage in at least one mobile phone behavior while driving. Just under half of respondents said they read text messages or talk on a hand-held phone when behind the wheel.
"Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for American teenagers, ahead of all other types of injury or disease," explained State Farm Agent Dawn Sullivan. "Teens need time, practice and education to develop good driving habits and confidence behind the wheel."
The Sullivan Agencies' involvement in the Rock the Road Challenge is part of an ongoing commitment by the Cape Coral insurance agents to promote education. The pair founded Sully's House, a foundation that provides full-ride and partial scholarships to deserving high school graduates across Southwest Florida. Sully's House has granted full scholarships to college, summer art programs and more.
