St. Louis Kaplan Feldman Holocaust Museum Announces New Pop-Up Exhibition Honoring the Ritchie Boys

ST. LOUIS - EntSun -- The St. Louis Kaplan Feldman Holocaust Museum will open a new pop-up exhibition, "You Must Learn from the Enemy: The Ritchie Boys of St. Louis," honoring the Ritchie Boys, the remarkable group of soldiers whose intelligence work played a critical role in the Allied victory during World War II. The exhibition is now on view, and will be on view in the Museum's lobby through February 7, 2027. The exhibition is free and does not require Museum admission.

Trained at Camp Ritchie in Maryland, the Ritchie Boys became part of an elite U.S. military intelligence team specializing in interrogation, counterintelligence, psychological warfare, and other forms of intelligence gathering. Many were European refugees who had been persecuted by Nazi Germany and escaped to the United States, only to return to Europe as American soldiers fighting the regime they had fled.

At least 45 Ritchie Boys had connections to St. Louis, giving this extraordinary chapter of World War II history a powerful local connection.

Among them was 1st Lieutenant Werner Daniels, whose story is featured in the exhibition. Through his experience and the broader history of the Ritchie Boys, visitors will learn how refugees from Nazi persecution transformed their knowledge of European languages, cultures, and customs into an invaluable asset to the Allied war effort.

The pop-up exhibition will be on view beginning September 10 in the lobby of the St. Louis Kaplan Feldman Holocaust Museum and will remain open through February 7, 2027. Visitors may experience the exhibition free of charge during regular Museum hours.
