Spokane Police Urge Public to Stay Out of Fire Evacuation Areas

~ Spokane Police Department Urges Public to Stay Out of Wildfire Evacuation Areas
According to Erin Hut, the Communications Director for the Spokane Police Department, the department is urging everyone to stay out of wildfire evacuation areas unless they are residents who are evacuating. These areas are still extremely dangerous and pose a threat to anyone who enters.
Hut warns that fire conditions can change rapidly in these areas and roads may be blocked without warning. In addition, there are active gas lines that could burst at any moment and heavy smoke that creates additional hazards. These factors make it crucial for individuals to stay away from evacuation zones.
The department emphasizes that every person or vehicle that enters an evacuation zone diverts valuable resources away from their primary mission of protecting lives, homes, and containing the fire. This means that emergency personnel may have to respond to unauthorized individuals instead of focusing on those who need their help the most.

While it is understandable that people may want to check on their property, Hut stresses that no home or photograph is worth risking one's life or the lives of those who may have to rescue them. If anyone believes their family members are missing or unresponsive within an evacuation zone, they are advised to call Crime Check and provide the necessary information for a welfare check by SPD.
The public is urged to respect all road closures, evacuation notices, and follow the directions of emergency personnel. By staying out of evacuation zones, individuals can help first responders keep the community safe during this emergency.
The Spokane Police Department expresses gratitude for everyone's cooperation and support during this challenging time.
