Spokane: City Seeks Feedback on Future Land Use Map

~ Spokane, WA - The City of Spokane has officially opened the public comment period for the PlanSpokane 2046 draft Comprehensive Plan and Future Land Use Map as part of their Comprehensive Plan Update. This marks an important step in a process that began in 2024 to create a roadmap for the city's development over the next 20 years.

According to Kirstin Davis, Communications Manager for the City of Spokane, the deadline for comments is Friday, Oct. 2, 2026 at 5 p.m. She emphasized the importance of community feedback in shaping the future of Spokane.

"Land use is a crucial aspect that impacts our daily lives and we want to hear from people in every one of Spokane's 29 neighborhoods about the future of our city," said Mayor Lisa Brown.

The Future Land Use Map, also known as FLUM, identifies the desired mix of uses for the next two decades. It serves as a guide for zoning and regulations that will direct future development. While it may not reflect current land use on properties, it represents the community's vision for the future.

Based on community engagement and the adopted Preferred Alternative, a draft Future Land Use Map is now available for public feedback.

To provide comments, community members can explore an interactive map and leave comments along the way. Each Neighborhood Council has its own slide comparing proposed updates with current designations. Comments can also be submitted via email to PlanSpokane@spokanecity.org with "PlanSpokane 2046 Public Comments" in the subject line.

Written comments can be directed to Kevin Friebott at City Hall or requested through preaddressed comment postcards at the Development Services Center.

In addition to this interactive map, an interactive Comprehensive Plan Explorer dashboard has been published by the City. This tool allows community members to search goals and policies found within the draft Comprehensive Plan by chapter, keywords, theme, or whether it is new or existing. However, it is important to note that this tool is a companion to the draft chapters and does not include all of the important content found in the full draft.

The City encourages all community members to participate in this public comment period and provide their feedback on the PlanSpokane 2046 draft Comprehensive Plan and Future Land Use Map. The full draft chapters can be found on the Chapter Review webpage of PlanSpokane.org. All comments received during this period will be considered and sent to the Spokane Plan Commission prior to their public hearing as the City moves forward with this process.
