Spokane: Boiler Inspection Program Transitions to Washington Labor & Industries
EntSun News/11095658
~ Spokane, WA- The City of Spokane has announced that effective July 1, 2026, the responsibility for the city's Boiler Inspection Program will be transferred to the Washington State Department of Labor & Industries (L&I). This transition will affect contractors, property managers, building owners, boiler operators, and other stakeholders.
According to Erin Hut, Communications Director for the City of Spokane, this change will result in several benefits for customers. These include consistent statewide administration, streamlined services for businesses, increased efficiency, and cost savings.
Starting July 1st, all boiler inspections, permits, registrations, compliance activities and related customer services that were previously managed by the City of Spokane will now be directly handled by L&I. However, the City of Spokane will continue to administer the Boiler Operator Licensing Program.

Individuals performing boiler operator duties within Spokane city limits must still obtain and maintain a valid City of Spokane Boiler Operator License as required by applicable city code.
To ensure a smooth transition and minimize disruption to customers, the City of Spokane and L&I are coordinating closely. Until July 1st, customers should continue to submit boiler permit applications and inspection requests through the City of Spokane Development Services Center. The City will also continue to administer existing permits and inspections unless a separate notice is received.
After July 1st, customers should direct all program-related questions to L&I and submit permit applications or schedule inspections through them. They can be reached at 360-902-6400 or via email at Boiler@Lni.wa.gov.
For any questions or concerns before July 1st, customers can contact the City of Spokane Development Services Center at 509-625-6966 or via email at PermitTeam@spokanecity.org.
The transition is expected to provide a more efficient and streamlined process for customers while also ensuring compliance with safety regulations. The City of Spokane encourages all stakeholders to familiarize themselves with the changes and reach out to the appropriate department for any further inquiries.
