SOULITUDE Celebrates Guatemalan Heritage with their Latest Collection

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. - EntSun -- Soulitude is proud to work with a local Guatemalan boutique, Algodones Mayas, that cultivates native pre-hispanic cotton from nearly 5,000 years ago when Mayans used it for backstrap weaving, to create beautiful handwoven textiles for the duffel bags. Algodones Mayas was able to recover native lxcaco, Cuyuscate and Jade cotton, which almost went extinct in the 90's, to preserve their cultural heritage. The brown hues used in these duffel bags are derived from these rare heirloom cotton types.

Earlier this year, the founder of Soulitude, Fatima Vali, had the opportunity to visit Guatemala to understand the intricate production process from start-to-end as well as to fully immerse herself in the culture. "These artisans have put their heart and soul into their craft which can be seen in the stunning fabric patterns that have been handwoven. For me, I just want to bring awareness to the endless capabilities of the people of Guatemala. I want the world to celebrate their craftsmanship," says Vali. These artisans have put a piece of their identity and heritage in each bag which explains the name, Meraki Collection, as it means, "doing something with soul, creativity, or love; leaving a piece of yourself into what you are doing."

Soulitude would like to highlight that around 80% of these artisans are hardworking mothers and daughters looking to improve their quality of life by making a good living.
