Social card games for lockdown or freedom, pre-order now
EntSun News/10905221
WIMBORNE, U.K. - EntSun -- Social card games by Ken Hutton will be released on the 16th of November 2021. The book describes 42 of the best card games for passing time with friends and family – whether you've been apart too long, cooped up together for weeks or free to spend as much time together as you please. It is available to pre-order now as an ebook or paperback from book stores and online retailers around the world.
You don't need to have played cards before. The opening advice on shuffling and playing in turn, and description of the children's game snap provide a suitable introduction for absolute beginners. From there new concepts are introduced one or two at a time, making each game easy to learn, even as the depth and complexity grow through the book. There are classics like knockout whist, go fish and Liverpool rummy; as well as games less well known in the English-speaking world and six new games designed by the author. Also included are compendium matches that combine several games into one to mix things up and some ideas for short league formats to involve more players than could normally take part in a game or to switch the teams around in partnership games.

One of the nice things about many card games is that they can provide entertainment without preventing conversation. The games in this book have been carefully selected for such social play. None of them requires gambling to make them fun and none should have players saying "shh, I'm trying to think" or
"sit back everyone, my turn is going to take ages!" Adjustments have been made to some games, like simplifying the scoring or using the same special cards across different games to make them easier to remember. Other games whose complex or difficult to remember rules add little or nothing to the fun have been left out.
A sample is available for free at https://kenhutton.uk which includes snap, gin rummy and the brand new game sum-run-set. If you like that, then pre-ordering the full book can be as simple as asking for Social card games by Ken Hutton at your local bookstore. Or check your favourite web store if you prefer, many do provide pre-ordering services. A large print version is in the works for those partially sighted readers who prefer a physical book to an ebook reader device or app. Unless feedback reveals major issues with the first draft it should be released on the 16th of November along with the other formats.
