EntSun News/11105057
~ The City of Bloomington has appointed Ryan Pedigo as deputy chief of the Bloomington Police Department, citing his more than 24 years in law enforcement, including 19 years with the department.

Pedigo has served as a patrol sergeant, detective sergeant and lieutenant at BPD. Since 2019, he has been captain of administration, overseeing officer recruitment and hiring, the Records Division, Central Emergency Dispatch, the Mental Health Professionals Unit and departmental accreditation. He has also served as the department's primary public information officer.

The city said Pedigo led BPD through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies process, rewriting and refining department policies and procedures over 15 months. BPD achieved Tier 1 accreditation in 2018 and has maintained its status, most recently earning reaccreditation for a third consecutive cycle in July 2026.

"Ryan understands this department from the ground up and has demonstrated the judgment, discipline, and leadership required to move it forward," Police Chief Michael Diekhoff said. He added that he was confident Pedigo would support officers and help strengthen community trust.

Pedigo began his law enforcement career with the Owen County Sheriff's Office. He earned a bachelor's degree in criminal justice and criminology from Ball State University, graduating cum laude in 2002, and graduated with honors from the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy in 2004. He is also a certified crash reconstructionist.

As deputy chief, Pedigo will help manage and direct the department's work, including efforts to foster a safe and welcoming community, maintain professional standards and build trust with people who live in and visit Bloomington.
