The QPIFF was founded in 2018 to discover diverse new voices and to promote the powerful stories of indie filmmakers across a wide spectrum of platforms. In QPIFF's inaugural season, 2,200 submissions were received, representing 65 countries and almost 700 first-time filmmakers. Just over 19% of the filmmakers in this year's competition were women; 45% were people of color or not of Caucasian descent; 8% identified as LGBTQIA+.
