'Prostate Cancer Real Talk' builds community with families of people diagnosed with Prostate Cancer

CHICAGO - EntSun -- After being stunned by a diagnosis that he had prostate cancer, television and advertising executive Elverage Allen created a podcast that is drawing a growing audience and
helping pharmaceutical companies reach patients, particularly, especially Black men, who are more likely to have thedisease and more likely to die from it.

Especially during September, which is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, El and his wife Shay's podcast, Prostate Cancer Real Talk delivers information about dealing with the stigma and often embarrassing realities of living with the disease for both patients and their families. The podcast features real patients and couples talking about their real-life experiences. It also features doctors, and other clinical experts, who dispense information about drugs and treatments in a clear, understandable and relatable manner.

While doctors express concerns that more effort is needed to educate the population about this form of cancer have been ineffective, Prostate Cancer Real Talk is connecting with a growing audience.

In a recent season it drew an average of 2 million YouTube impressions per week and total listenership of 4.4 million minutes of watch/listen time.

Since July 1 this season, Prostate Cancer Real Talk has generated 18 million impressions and 3.4 million interactions and engagements. Its engagement rate is an off-the-scale 18,54% (10% is considered exceptional),

The podcast is not only connecting with people dealing with cancer, it is delivering for sponsors. Prostate Cancer: Real Talk has exceeded delivery targetsand other marketing goals.

"We develop a personal relationship with our audience and stress the totally unique nature of the show. "We are a support community! It is a place where we can go for information, but more importantly, to share YOUR personal experience, YOUR story, YOUR feelings, and YOUR concerns," said Allen. "Prostate Cancer is not a subject you can bring up at work around the coffee machine."

Prostate cancer affects one in eight U.S. men. According to an American Cancer Society Report, for the first time in 20 years, the incidence rate for Prostate Cancer increased, resulting in 99,900 new cases annually.

Black men are 50% more likely to develop the disease and twice as likely to die from it.

The people behind Prostate Cancer Real Talk are Elverage (El) Allen and his wife Sheila (Shay). El has been cancer free since undergoing surgery in 2020 but he knew his life has changed.. He had many questions about how the condition would affect his life.

Shay, a real estate investor, made a suggestion. She said "I think you can use your media background to help other people that are going through this," he recalled. "We need to start a podcast."
