Polis Administration Announces Return of Popular Colorado E-Bike Rebates

WHEAT RIDGE ~ Wheat Ridge, Colorado - Governor Jared Polis and the Colorado Energy Office (CEO) have announced the relaunch of the popular E-bike Rebates program later this month. The initiative, which was initially open from Summer 2023 until Spring 2025, helped nearly 8,000 Coloradans save over $9.75 million on e-bike purchases. With a total of $3 million in funding from the Community Access Enterprise for the current fiscal year, CEO plans to provide point-of-sale rebates for qualifying e-bike purchases to more than 2,800 eligible Coloradans over the next year.

The funding through the Community Access Enterprise will create an ongoing stream of support for rebates in the future. This relaunch comes as part of Colorado's commitment to reducing pollution from the transportation sector and promoting zero-emission technologies.

Governor Polis expressed his excitement about building on the success of the initial round of rebates and offering more savings to Coloradans who choose to purchase e-bikes. "E-bikes are fun, convenient, reduce traffic congestion, and help Colorado meet our bold clean air and climate goals," he said. "Colorado is leading the way by innovating to reduce pollution and give Coloradans more options to get where we need to go efficiently and safely. E-bikes are the future, and I look forward to more Coloradans taking advantage of these money-saving rebates."

During the initial run of this initiative, more than 34,000 Coloradans applied for rebates. Of those who received a rebate, 89% said they would not have bought an e-bike without it. By replacing an average of 2.85 private vehicle trips per week with e-bike rides, rebate recipients have avoided estimated annual emissions equivalent to 8.85 million miles driven in a traditional gas-powered car.

CEO Executive Director Will Toor also expressed his enthusiasm for the relaunch of the program. "Our initial e-bike rebate program was a great success, having a real impact on people's lives," he said. "As demand continues to soar, we are excited to bring back this popular program with ongoing funding so that more Coloradans can enjoy the many benefits e-bikes offer."

The rebates will be available to Colorado residents with a household income at or below 80% of the area median income in their county. The standard rebate will be worth $1,000, with additional savings of $300 available for e-cargo bike and adaptive e-bike purchases.

Registration for the rebates will open on a quarterly basis over the next year. Each registration round will be open for one week, and Coloradans can register at any time during that period. The first round will open on August 24, 2026 at 11:00 AM MT and close on August 31, 2026 at 12:00 PM MT. Interested individuals can find a link to the registration portal on the E-Bike Rebate webpage once registration opens.

Initially, registrants will only need to provide their name and contact information. After the registration period closes, CEO will randomly select recipients and notify them via email. Selected registrants will then have one week to submit proof of income and address to confirm their eligibility. More information about acceptable documentation is available on the E-Bike Rebate webpage.

To redeem the rebate, recipients must purchase a qualifying e-bike in-person or over the phone from a participating retailer. CEO is currently registering retailers with the program, and this list will continue to grow as outreach efforts continue. Details about qualifying e-bikes can also be found on the webpage.

Recipients of the Colorado E-Bike Rebate may also combine it with the Colorado E-Bike Tax Credit discount if they purchase from a retailer participating in both programs. However, individuals living in cities or counties with existing e-bike rebate programs, such as Denver, may still apply for the statewide rebate. To ensure that as many Coloradans as possible can access incentives to make e-bikes more affordable, recipients may not combine the state rebate with local incentives on the same e-bike purchase.

The relaunch of the E-bike Rebates program is a significant step towards promoting sustainable transportation and reducing emissions in Colorado. With ongoing funding and support from the Community Access Enterprise, more Coloradans will have access to affordable e-bikes and contribute to a cleaner and greener future.
