One Mile North of 8 Mile: KayeDinero Connects Detroit and Asheville on "Nine Mile"

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - EntSun -- KayeDinero is preparing to release a new single today titled "Nine Mile," and the name connects two places that have shaped her life: Asheville and Detroit.

In Asheville, Nine Mile is personal.

The Caribbean-inspired restaurant became one of her mother's favorite places after KayeDinero introduced her to it—and the artist agrees.

"My mother loves Nine Mile, and I get it—the food is amazing," KayeDinero said. "So the title carries a family memory for me. But if you're from Detroit, Nine Mile means something completely different."

One Mile Beyond Detroit's Famous Boundary

In Metro Detroit, Nine Mile Road belongs to the region's famous east-west mile-road system.

Eight Mile marks Detroit's northern boundary and became internationally recognizable through Detroit culture and Eminem. Nine Mile is the next mile road north, running through several of Detroit's northern suburbs.

That gives "Nine Mile" another bridge between the city that raised KayeDinero and the Western North Carolina city she now calls home.

But research reveals a third connection.

Asheville's Nine Mile Has Its Own Musical Story

Asheville's Nine Mile restaurant was named after Nine Mile, Jamaica—the birthplace of Bob Marley. The restaurant has served Caribbean-inspired food in Asheville since 2008 and now operates locations in Montford, West Asheville and Biltmore Park.

"I love that all these layers are sitting inside two words," KayeDinero said. "Detroit hears a road. Asheville hears a restaurant. Then there's reggae history underneath the restaurant name."

"Nine Mile" follows KayeDinero's recent single "Cass Tech" and projects Human Error and Kulture Metrics, continuing a catalog built around Detroit references, Asheville experiences, technology and personal storytelling.

Her wider work spans music production, Python and software development, financial-market tools, TradingView indicators and aerial cinematography.
