New Hampshire Prostate Cancer Coalition - September Awareness Month

CONCORD, N.H. - EntSun -- Concord, NH – The New Hampshire Prostate Cancer Coalition announces that September is National Prostate Cancer Awareness Month.  NHPCC is encouraging men and their families to prioritize prostate health through education, early detection and regular conversations with health providers. Throughout September the Coalition is also inviting individuals, healthcare professionals, businesses, and community organizations to join its growing network of advocates dedicated to reducing the impact of prostate cancer across New Hampshire.
Prostate Cancer is one of the most diagnosed cancers among men in the United States. While many men diagnosed with prostate cancer have successful outcomes, early detection remains one of the most effective tools for improving treatment options and survival. Knowing your personal risk factors such as having a family history of prostate cancer and asking your doctor for a PSA blood test is the first step towards early detection. Men should have the PSA screening test starting at age 40. The PSA test (Prostate-Specific Antigen) is a simple blood test that provides a baseline for early detection of Prostate Cancer. "Men tend to put off their health care which is risky since 1 in 8 men will get prostate cancer," states NHPCC Co-President Peter McGee, and many times there no symptoms which is why getting the PSA screening is so important."

The mission of the NHPCC is to bring awareness to this disease using the blue ribbons and early detection message during the month of September.  Cathi Bachhuber NHPCC Co-President comments, "Just like the women have their pink ribbons of awareness for the month of October, we need to build that same urgency for our New Hampshire men with blue ribbons during the month of September!"
A series of broadcast and print Public Service Announcements will be sent out throughout the state hoping that news outlets, medical offices and business alike will use the messaging to help save lives of the men in New Hampshire. The New Hampshire Prostate Cancer Coalition is committed to providing education, promoting awareness, supporting patients and survivors, and working with healthcare partners to improve access to prostate cancer information and resources throughout the Granite State throughout the year, but especially during the month of September.
