Sewah Akoto introduces young readers to Blackie the Mouse, a heartwarming woodland adventure that inspires confidence, compassion and curiosity.
NEW YORK - EntSun -- Parents searching for children's books that encourage kindness, resilience and self-belief have a new story to discover with The Adventures of Blackie the Mouse, the debut children's book by Sewah Akoto for readers aged 4–9.
Set in a peaceful woodland, the story follows Blackie, a curious young mouse who dreams of exploring the beautiful houses beyond the forest. Although his family believes these homes are places to avoid, Blackie feels there is more to discover beyond his familiar surroundings. Driven by curiosity, he embarks on an adventure filled with exciting discoveries, unexpected challenges and new friendships.
Along the way, Blackie learns that courage does not mean never feeling afraid. Instead, it means finding the strength to keep moving forward despite uncertainty. His journey also reveals that kindness and trust can be found in unexpected places, gently encouraging children to think about empathy, acceptance, perseverance and believing in themselves.

Blackie is joined by a lovable cast of woodland friends, including Browny, whose caring nature brings warmth to the group; Grey, whose intelligence helps solve problems; Spike, whose enthusiasm adds energy to their adventures; and Laylah, whose gentle wisdom offers guidance. Together, they show young readers that everyone has something valuable to contribute and that friendship celebrates differences.
Charming full-colour illustrations bring the woodland setting to life with cosy burrows, forest trails and colourful landscapes, creating an engaging reading experience for children and providing opportunities for parents, carers, teachers and librarians to discuss confidence, friendship and compassion.
"I wanted to write a story that children would enjoy while gently encouraging them to believe in themselves and to treat others with kindness," says Sewah Akoto. "Blackie's journey reminds us that courage often begins with curiosity, and that even the smallest acts of compassion can make a lasting difference."
