National Grid Renewables Begins Construction on Dodson Creek Solar Project
EntSun News/11035736
MINNEAPOLIS, Sept. 5, 2024 ~ National Grid Renewables, a leading renewable energy company, has announced the start of construction at its Dodson Creek Solar Project in Highland County, Ohio. The project is expected to deliver 117 megawatts (MW) of clean solar power and generate an estimated $49 million in direct economic benefit for the local community.
According to Joe Ibrahim, Vice President of Construction and Engineering at National Grid Renewables, Dodson Creek is their fourth project to begin construction in Ohio and the second in Highland County. He stated that this project is a testament to their commitment to helping communities across Ohio reap the economic benefits of transitioning to clean energy.
Dodson Creek follows National Grid Renewables' Yellowbud Solar project, which is currently operational and the largest project in their Ohio portfolio. It also joins two other ongoing construction projects, Ross County Solar and Fayette Solar. Together, these four projects represent a 558.5 MW portfolio of construction and operating projects throughout the state.
The Dodson Creek project is expected to have a positive impact on the local community in various ways. During the construction phase, it will create approximately 200 jobs and sustain them throughout the process. The project has partnered with Kiewit as its Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) partner.

Brian Koller, vice president of Kiewit Power Constructors Co., expressed his excitement about collaborating with National Grid Renewables for the fourth time on this project. He emphasized their commitment to renewable energy and building strong relationships with local unions and communities. Kiewit is proud to contribute to a sustainable future through the Dodson Creek Solar Project.
In addition to its partnership with Kiewit, National Grid Renewables will continue its longstanding collaboration with First Solar for this project. The Dodson Creek project will utilize next-generation Series 7 modules developed and produced by First Solar at their Toledo manufacturing facility.
Darin Green, Senior Director at First Solar, highlighted the momentum driving the growth of solar in Ohio, their home state. He stated that they are proud to support National Grid Renewables with American-made Series 7 modules, manufactured just 3.5 hours away from the Dodson Creek site. Green is confident that this project will be a valuable addition to Ohio's sustainable energy future.
Once operational in mid-2025, the Dodson Creek project is expected to produce approximately $21 million in new tax revenue for Highland County and local townships, school districts, and emergency districts. Additionally, National Grid Renewables has pledged to contribute $585,000 to Highland County charities and organizations through a dedicated charitable fund. This follows their previous pledge of over $1 million to communities in Ross and Pickaway Counties through their Yellowbud Solar project. These charitable funds demonstrate National Grid Renewables' commitment to being a good neighbor within the communities where they operate.

Moreover, the Dodson Creek project is estimated to avoid 198,400 metric tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions every year during operation – equivalent to taking 44,000 cars off the road for a year. This further highlights the positive impact of transitioning to clean energy sources like solar power.
In conclusion, National Grid Renewables' Dodson Creek Solar Project is set to bring significant economic benefits and contribute towards a sustainable future for Ohio. With its commitment to renewable energy and community partnerships, this project serves as an example of how companies can make a positive impact while also meeting their business goals.
