Maryland: PUBLIC NOTICE: Unscheduled Mosquito Control Activity in Prince George's County Planned for September 17

EntSun News/11102657
ANNAPOLIS, MD (September 16, 2026) ~ Annapolis, MD - The Maryland Department of Agriculture (MDA) has announced plans to expand mosquito control services in certain areas due to concerns over potential mosquito-borne diseases. This decision comes in cooperation with the Prince George's County Health Department.

On Thursday, September 17, 2026, MDA will be conducting Ultra-Low Volume truck-based spraying in the evening along Race Track Road in Bowie and the Lincoln Vista community of Lanham. The spraying will take place after 9:00 p.m. ET and will be rescheduled for Friday, September 18, 2026 if there is inclement weather. Any existing spray exemptions in the area will be temporarily suspended.

The MDA Mosquito Control Program will be using a permethrin-based solution that has been approved by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for use in public health mosquito control programs without posing unreasonable risks to human health. However, as a precautionary measure, MDA recommends that residents avoid outdoor activities during the spraying.

While not all mosquitoes carry diseases, MDA advises residents to take precautions to minimize their exposure to mosquito bites. These measures include wearing long, loose-fitting, light-colored clothing and using insect repellents according to product labels. It is also recommended to avoid mosquito-infested areas during prime periods of activity (between dusk and dawn), install and inspect window and door screens in homes and stables, regularly clean bird baths and pet food/water bowls, and remove or empty any water-holding containers.

Residents can find routine spray program schedules by county on the program's website. For any questions or concerns, please contact MDA's Mosquito Control Program at (410) 841-5870.
