Long Beach Parks, Recreation and Marine and Fire Department to Host Water Safety Day

Long Beach, CA ~ Long Beach residents can look forward to a fun and educational event this summer as the City of Long Beach Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine (PRM) and Long Beach Fire Department's Marine Safety Division team up to host Water Safety Day. This free event aims to educate the community on essential water safety skills in preparation for the upcoming summer season.

On Saturday, May 24, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., residents can head over to either Belmont Plaza Pool or Silverado Park Pool for a day filled with both dry and wet water safety stations. The event will be held simultaneously at both locations to increase accessibility for all residents.

Mayor Rex Richardson emphasizes the importance of water safety, stating that it is a crucial skill that can save lives and allow individuals to fully enjoy aquatic activities at pools and beaches. He encourages all residents to take advantage of this opportunity offered just in time for the summer season.

Participants at Water Safety Day will have the chance to learn survival floating techniques, receive swim lesson evaluations, and obtain information and resources about swim lessons. In addition, attendees will also learn important skills such as hands-only CPR, how to assist someone in need in the water, and how to call 9-1-1 in an emergency situation.

Those planning on attending should come prepared with a swimsuit and towel. Registration is free and can be completed online at LBParks.org. After the event, participants are invited to stay for a free recreation swim from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at either location.
