Joga Labs FC Brings Competitive Youth Futsal to Keller, Texas

KELLER, Texas - EntSun -- Joga Labs FC, a youth futsal club serving Keller and North Fort Worth, is giving local players a place to grow their game through futsal: the fast, five-a-side indoor version of soccer that countries like Brazil, Spain and Portugal use to develop technical players.

The club was started by Roberto Avey, who grew up playing futsal and soccer and reached the junior squad of A.A. Ponte Preta in Brazil. In the United States he played college and semi-professional soccer and coached youth teams from U8 to U17 before bringing that experience to Keller.

"Futsal puts the ball at a player's feet over and over," Avey said. "In a small space you have to think fast, touch the ball often and make decisions under pressure. That's where confidence comes from, and it carries straight over to the big field."

Joga Labs calls itself a player laboratory. Practices are built around real game situations instead of long lines and lectures, so every player gets more touches, more decisions and more chances to lead. The club's motto is simple: Play More. Coaches also focus on discipline, self-awareness and a family-style team culture.

Joga Labs is designed to work alongside outdoor club soccer, not replace it. Many of its players also play for outdoor clubs, and the club treats futsal as the extra touches that make them better there.

"Parents tell me their kids come back to their outdoor teams quicker and braver on the ball," Avey said. "That's exactly the point."

This fall the club fields three teams in the Chaos Sports Performance futsal league: Joga Labs U10, Joga Labs Black U13 and Joga Labs Red U13. As of October 4, the U10 and Black U13 squads sit first in their divisions, with the playoff finals set for October 10.

Beyond its competitive teams, Joga Labs offers futsal classes for ages U7–U15 and specialized ASD Futsal Classes for children with autism.
