IntelliGuard Announces the Only RFID-Automated Waste Witness Software Platform to Acute Care Hospitals
EntSun News/10779785
IntelliGuard launches new waste witness software as the latest innovation offering to manage narcotic waste and prevent diversion in hospitals.
SAN DIEGO - EntSun -- Healthcare providers can now look to IntelliGuard, a global leader in RFID medication management technology, for narcotic waste and witness in acute care hospitals. The new waste witness software supports federal and state laws and regulations, as well as compliance standards such as Joint Commission and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
"Providers have the impossible job of managing every medication in a hospital, including controlled substance security, administration and disposal," said Gordon Krass, chief executive officer, IntelliGuard. "RFID is the only technology which provides the most accurate and reliable medication management data. And now we can help automate controlled substance waste administration, disposal and witness events."
Late last year, the company launched the IntelliGuard Anesthesia Station which provides true operating room medication management, using RFID to record real-time drug dispense data in procedural areas, without disrupting anesthesiologists or delaying patient care. The addition of the waste witness module is just one example how the company is committed to address one area of health care that is ripe for improvement and modernization.
This new offering is expected to help healthcare organizations apply technology and diligent surveillance to more effectively review process compliance and effectiveness, strengthen controls, and proactively prevent diversion.

Early adopter feedback on the benefits of IntelliGuard Anesthesia and Waste Witness say that they finally have a technology solution that provides light to the traditional black hole of medication management and narcotic waste witness in procedural areas. It gives the pharmacy staff peace of mind and – because using RFID is so simple – there are no workarounds from anesthesiologists or nurses.
"We are known for clinical quality improvement and workflow integration," said Gordon Krass, "Our research with both pharmacy and anesthesia providers has been instrumental in providing technology to better patient care. IntelliGuard is focused relentlessly on developing breakthrough innovation that will shape the health care of tomorrow."
